How the writing works

The beat desk's rule · last updated Sep 7, 2026

The record stands on its own. The writing is a layer on top of it, checked against it, and never the source of a number. Every figure in a story or a thread is one the record already holds, and it links to the game, the table or the page it came from; a figure that cannot be linked is not written. Nothing on this site is generated from a story, and no story has ever moved a number.

The stories are written by hand, not produced by the build, and they are tagged by manager and by season so they sit beside the record rather than in front of it. They are on Storylines, and each manager's are on that manager's page.

The league fact-checks. A story that gets a figure wrong is corrected against the record, not the other way round, and the receipts for the record itself are on Data notes.
